Healthy Lunchbox Week!

A number of years ago, Chetwynd Junior School was awarded Healthy School Status.  We endeavour to continue providing healthy lifestyles for our children and will therefore be having a Healthy Lunchbox Week commencing on Monday 7th March to Friday 11th March 2016.

 

Healthy Lunchbox Week is successfully organised by the Year 6 School Councillors and this will continue again.  It would be great if you could help your child bring a Healthy Lunchbox during this week.  The request is that packed lunches are free from sugar / fatty food for the week e.g. crisps, chocolate bars.  Instead we recommend the Healthier Lunchbox Checklist.

Have you included.  .  .  .  ?

 

  • A good portion of starchy food, e.g. bread, chapatti, pitta pocket, pasta or rice salad?
  • Plenty of fruit and vegetables, e.g. an apple, a Satsuma, handful of cherry tomatoes or carrot sticks, mini can of fruit chunks or small box of raisins?
  • A portion of milk or dairy food, e.g. individual cheese portion or pot of yoghurt?
  • A portion of lean meat, fish or alternative, e.g. ham, chicken, beef, tuna, egg, hummus or bean/lentil salad?
  • A drink, e.g. fruit juice, milk or water.

 

Hot dinners always offer healthy options

Most importantly enjoy your lunch!

 

 

The children will each have a card, completed by a School Councillor, to indicate the healthy option.  Five P in the boxes will result in the child gaining a certificate of recognition.  In addition to this, we expect the children to feel healthier and have greater concentration too.
